HISTORICAL LANDMARKS

  1. Al-Ghuwair Castle
    * established during early 19th century, Al-Ghuwair Castle is another famous landmark in the country that is worth watching for. It is made of thick stonewalls and mud shape in rectangular form.

  2. Al Khor
    - lying 57km north of Doha, Al Khor is best known for its harbor where small craft and fishing boats abound in the area. This coastal city has been rapidly progressing over the past few years. It boasts with pristine beaches, historic tower and fascinating mosques. Al Khor is composed of 31, 611 people on the last 2004 estimation.

  3. Umm Salal Mohammed Fort
    * stretching 20 kilometers away from north of Doha positions a beautiful structure with magnificent façade and distinguishable structure because of its thick walls. Inside the fort are the different decorative and architectural elements. Umm Salal Mohammed Fort was deemed built during 19th and 20th century.

  4. Al-Thughb Fort
    * commonly bears a resemblance to desert forts, this 17th and 19th century structure has four towers, which are very amazing. Al-Thughb Fort is situated on the northwest part of Qatar and approximately 110 kilometers from the capital city- Doha.

  5. Barzan Tower
    * constructed with a “T” shaped architectural style, the Barzan Tower was originally established as a watchtower. It nestles around the Umm Salal Mohammed area. With its unique style, many visitors frequented the place. Barzan Tower is composed of three levels with an external staircase.

  6. Al-Rakiyat Fort
    * just like any forts in Qatar, it is shaped in rectangular form and consisted of four towers in the corners. It was erected around 17th and 19th century and was later restored in 1988 to preserve its beauty and structural design.

  7. Marroub Fort
    * lying on the west coast of Qatar is an old fortress called Marroub Fort. It was constructed during Abbasside period bearing the inscription of Abbasside architectural style. On the northern part of the Fort are the beautiful formation of around 250 houses grouped together to form an arch.

  8. Al-Wajbah Fort
    * once a popular battlefield but now a famous tourist attraction in the country. Al-Wajbah Fort is deemed the oldest fortress in Qatar. It has high towers and thick walls painstakingly constructed to ward off its enemies.

  9. Doha Fort
    * on the quaint district of Al Bida of downtown Doha, a Moorish-style structure sits- the Doha Fort. This fort was used before as a Turkish military barracks during the Ottoman invasion. The fort has sturdy walls in which it houses a wide array of traditional craft collections, works of art and gold creations.
